A grid house on Jeju Island, Korea.
The building has no unnecessary components on the front or on its sides. There is a small yard by the road, and upon passing the yard is a small space that leads to the inner court, which is the entrance of the building. Such a path is impressive by itself, and it is also an effective solution for vacation houses which are only used occasionally. The architect described the project as the ‘Rebooting of Place.’
It’s an unfamiliar term in architecture, but he used the term to describe something that has eradicated the continuity of a series and starts anew. Using this method, the star-shaped non-linear land was divided into 3m module square lattices, with the module dividing not only the building but the entire land. Each module preserves the memories of the space and create layers of new memories, newly defining the relationship between the house and the land.
